Necromancy is ok in this forum methinks. I still keep meaning to revisit this spell and make some minor tweaks to it. I just haven't...
One thing that could be interesting is that instead of a failure making the caster feebleminded, there could be a chance of his mind being replaced by the memories that were stored. This would lead to a character that is more like a doppelganger. The controlled character would then be motivated to seek out the original owner of the memories for he has become but a souless shadow of that person. Once the controlled character finds the original, he will seek to slay the original in order to lay claim to his soul. The character could get a daily roll to try and break free and regain control of his body.
Of course, slaying the original won't work out as he thinks... the magic of the memory map has naught to do with souls. I would think that at this point, the controlling memories will become insane as they realize that they are destined to a final death with no chance at a glorious afterlife. There would be one final roll for the main PC to see if it can manage to break free of the control. If he fails, he becomes a crazed NPC for the rest of the campaign. He could alternately just revert to feeblemindedness if the player wished to save the PC still and the DM is a nice guy
Anyway, glad you like the spell and I like the ideas for plots regarding it that you came up with. All the above is fairly complex and I would probably make it all an optional rule for the spell or something. Either way, speculating about it is damned fun.
It's been months since I've really had any creative thoughts about role playing.
I really need to get back in the game man... to hell with this sideline shit!
